Matthew & others,
I've just bought a red dot Nikon F (#65859xx). Matthew has a list with cameras that should not have a red dot. If those cameras do have a red dot, that dot was added later. How can I determine whether the red dot is original or added later? And why should someone (and who?) add a dot later? Thanks & regards, Nico |

Hi Guys, I have updated my Red dot list with about 20 newnumbers and many Non-red dot numbers! Thanks everyone for your help! I moved house recently and could not find the last 2 issues of NHS journals. There might be a few more listed in the journals that I have not included in this update but I will certainly them in the next update when I recover the 2 journals from the mess! Please keep the numbers coming (Red dot and non-red dot), when the database get big enough, I will try to plot some interesting charts to see if any interesting pattern may surface. http://www.matthewlin.com/MyNikon/MyNikon.htm Also, I have included some new Japan and New York landscape photos shot with NikonD700. If you have time, please take a look.

nikonnl wrote: Hi Nico, Sometimes you can check the black paint on the filed areas behind the prism housing, it is often a giveaway. No easy way to tell if it is done professionally, that's why I added a Non-Red dot list just to keep track of those non-red dot bodies. Before ebay gained popularity, Red dot bodies were selling at quite a premium over normal bodies from some dealers. That would be an incentive for some people to fake a red dot. Quote from Pacific Rim Camera's WE BUY page. This is how much they are willing to pay if you sell your Nikons to them @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ $$$ = $200-500$$$$ = $500-1000
The first Nikon SLR, it was an overwhelming success. It became the standard of professional photographers everywhere. Produced for 15 years, about
a million units sold. Serial numbers start with 6400001 and end 74xxxxx. Black or chrome.

NIKKOR F 6595012 with red dot | ||
|
Yesterday I had a table at the Swiss camera show at Vevey (Lake of Geneva) and I found there a chrome NIKKOR F camera on the table of a French seller. It's
a camera with capital NIKKOR engraving on the name plate and serial number 6595012 with red dot (see added picture). It came with a black eyelevel prism
(marked Nikon) and the seller asked 300 Swiss Francs (about 260 US Dollars) for it, so I think it's not a fake.

Did you get it and fitted a Correct-Era Nikkor Eyelevel finder? For that price ($260), this F was pretty cheap! You're a lucky guy. Jose. |
