My only SB-1, Serial No. 114585. Let me know what you find and other serials you have collected. Do you know what date ranges the SB-1 was manufactured?

I Have two SB-1's, #201141 & #201549, both have the SK-2 bracket. They take to long to charge and recycle when using the SN-1 nicad battery pack. The
SD-2, D-cell battery pack is 10 times better, Charging is nill and the recycle time is almost instantly. Only problem it is big and heavy. I also have the SD-3
battery pack 510V, but have never found a battery to fit it, so I don't know how it works, or for that matter if it works.

Hi everyone thanks for all the shares,
Harold, SB-1's was sold from 1970 to 1974/5? So far I have No. 102170 and 201655 I've seen on the manuals are 110027 & 110331 My 102170 came with original instruction manual printed on the back of the manual (70.5.B) A-5 and I think it was manufactured at the end of the year 70's. If you have the original manual you can probably tell the date range that way.
Richard & Terry, Does your SB-1's came with the original manual?
Rick, I just picked up a SD-3 and found out the 510V battery are so expensive, so I won't be able to use it anyway. Also do all your SB-1's have the original instruction manual as well?
I have some pictures that you can see some little differences of the SB-1's. Let us know if you see more different than these pictures, and please post some pictures. Thanks Gen
102170 non horizontal lines on the ready light display
102170 ring neck with voltage and hertz
201655 blueish chrome ring neck
left 201655, right 102170 with 4 crystal + plastic screws
left 201655 with red marker probably marked for the positive side of the battery, right 102170

My manual date code is (72.10.A) &-10
This is a Black on Yellow cover with the Nikon F2 Photomic featured in the instruction photos. Looking through the accessories available to the SB-1 flash for that period of time is quite impressive. Thanks Harold |
