I was also outbid - a pity, I would have all the contemporary parts to restore it to original condition...

"...That was the first Nikon F ever produced..."If the seller means, by the statement above, that this Nikon F got serial #'d 6400001... it's a bargain!

NIKON KIU wrote:I was the high bidder on this item, and although it was shocking to see what it took to win it, I missed out on one for $36.00 from another seller a couple of weeks earlier. This protector is in brand new condition, just as described, and now rests on the bottom of F3T #8200001, which had a cracked one when it was purchased a few months ago on eBay (#390016262396). Roger

Well, I have to admit....that is the ugliest camera I've ever seen...of any brand! You've heard the old saying..."You can't make a silk
purse from a pigs ear!".
To be quite honest, I wouldn't let a camera like that into my house....in fear that it might contaminate the rest of my collection.....Ha! That's one man's opinion..... Cheers, Mike |

I really don't care what it looks like. It's black, (my only camera affectation), and if everything works, that would be good enough for me.

That has to be one of the earliest, if not THE earliest black paint F's made. Does anyone know the serial # of the earliest black paint F?

I had #709....which I foolishly sold or traded at the Seattle Convention in 1992. It came to me without lens or prism finder.
We do some stupid things in our lifetimes..... Cheers, Mike |

"not sure what these numbers mean on the inside front, 116 KL 3804 (scratched into the metal)" Have a look at my Nikon F web site: http://www.destoutz.ch/typ_body_casting-numbers.html What is the internal number on the rear side of the casting of your 6403535? Is it the same as on the front side? Cheers, Richard |
