I need advice on finding an appraiser in the general NJ area. I have two Nikon Ms and need input about 1. their value 2. should I sell or hold?

Thank you for the advice. I'm seriously thinking of just putting these cameras away for 5 or 10 yrs and waiting for the market to go up. I'm not a
collector, but I will be keeping my eyes open from now on! I stumbled across these two cameras at a church rummage sale. I was just going to put them away
until my daughter suggested I look on the internet to see if I could find their value. To my surprise they are actually worth something, unlike the other
vintage cameras I pick up. The sn's are M6092875 with a Nikkor -H.C. lens, 1:2 f=5cm, sn 50080602 and the other is M6091248 with a Nikkor-H.C. lens 1:2
f=5cm No 811363. I buy older cameras for their beauty, not for their value, but it's a nice surprise when you get beauty and value in one package!

There are no professional appraisers for early Nikons, anywhere. You have to watch the auctions and set a price. Currently there are many variations but Ms are
selling for 4~5k USD, unsynced ones for 1500~3k USD all depending on serial number, condition, and rarity of the particular body and lens.

But with collectibles you never know. My guess is sooner or later the bottom will totally drop out, but that is not going to happen soon. We will see film marginalized totally and a nostalgic interest in everything relating to film among collectors in the next ten years. Prices on rare pieces like your early M could go to outrageous heights. Or they could just become paper weights. |
