NIKON KIU wrote: I missed this, and went to the auction site to check it out, but it does not seem that I can search "completed auctions", like I can on eBay. Can you please tell me what it was for, and any other info such as price? Thanks, Roger |

Roger, You do realize, this was from January 2008. Even ebay auctions are visible for 3 months, Yahoo is not different! Now, if I remember correctly, the
seller was asking some strange number, like 350,000 yen! $3500.00 at the time! If I remember right!! But then you paid $6K.... Zunow takes a lotta patience!!

NIKON KIU wrote:Kiu, Opps! I missed your original post date, sorry! I'm new to the forum, and just assumed it was a recent post. Was the item a 50mm 1.1 lens, or a Zunowmatic 35 camera? $3500.00 would be a bargain for the camera, I'd take two at that price! Roger

Roger,
Very interesting, I've always had a soft spot for the Old Bronicas with Nikkor lenses, Tried to snipe one on ebay a couple of times with no luck. Lately they have become harder to find and more expensive. Just a little hint on posting here, when you quote someone, make sure you scroll down the page and type your reply under the quote boundaries.If you do it that way, your reply falls under the quote, like your first reply in this thread. Cheers, Kiu

NIKON KIU wrote: Kiu, Thanks for the posting tip. I knew that I did something wrong, but wasn't sure what. You are right about the early mechanical Bronica cameras bringing much higher prices now than before. The "S", "S2", "C", and "S2A" models can still be had for a reasonable cost, but the first models "Z" and "D" (which are what I collect) usually sell for 1K or more. Not too many of them show up each year, and I find it much harder now to win one. Fortunately, the majority of my collection was acquired 10-15 years ago when prices were much lower. Can you, or another forum member tell me the name of the President of Nikon USA back in 1982? He was the original owner of F3T8200001, which was presented to him by Nikon, Inc. I am trying to track down as much information on the history of this beautiful camera as possible. I contacted Nikon USA, and they said "Sorry, but we don't give out that kind of information". Is it a secret ??? Roger

NIKON KIU wrote: Kiu, Thought I did! I was in NY (I still have a home there), and went to Nikon USA in Melville with photos of 8200001, but was never able to get past the receptionist. The problem was that I didn't have a name of anyone higher up to talk to. After striking out there, I went downstairs to the repair department. They were more interested in my story, and about how I had purchased a camera that belonged to a former President of the company. The receptionist there called upstairs to try to help me, but was told to tell me that "they don't give out that kind of information". I'm sure that if I can find the proper person to talk to, they would be interested, and will be willing to help. Roger |

Nikon USA's president | ||

Could it be Jack Abrams, who worked for Nikon USA from 1966 - 2004? He became vice-president in 1978 and CEO in 1994. Jack was the first American (and/or
non-Japanese) that became a high official in Nikon's business structure. Maybe he was given the first F3T.

nikonnl wrote: Nico Thank you for your reply. It would seem very possible that Jack Abrams could be the one that the camera was presented to. He was obviously moving up the ladder at Nikon USA, and the seller said that it belonged to the ex President of Nikon USA, but perhaps he was not yet the President when he received it. I have been searching the Internet without much luck, but I will continue to try to nail down the history of 8200001. I am very proud to be the current "caretaker" of this beautiful bit of Nikon history. Roger |
