I'm interested in the black kits, complete with lens.
Can someone provide perhaps the Japanese street prices?
Thanks in advance.

Hey Vick,
I am not sure of the street price but I just bought an S3-2000 black with inner and outer box for only $ 2000 after some negotiation with the seller. It was ala carte though meaning while it was new with both inner and outer boxes, it did not have the paperwork or camera case. I still think it is gorgeous as it stands, and is a marvel of Nikon engineering. I am happy with this purchase and think it will appreciate simply due to its condition and the limited production run. But that's just my two cents. Cheers' MIke ![]()

Best price I've seen in Tokyo... | ||
|
was 398000 yen ($3,754 US) for a brand new SP 2005, black version, in Nakano (one train station stop from Shinjuku, going north) on 27Jan08. I picked one up
(serial #14xx); they had at least one more (serial #2367). In the glass case display case they had #220, but unfortunately it was not for sale!
As for a brand new S3 2000, I'm not certain. I picked mine up "used" (actually looked as if had never been used, but sitting in someone's collection) for 99970 yen (~$943 US) on the same day. Silver, with everything but the lens; still it had a 6 month warranty from Alp's Camera in Shinjuku (right next to Studio Alta). Map Camera had some SP 2005s, but priced much higher ($4,500 +). I didn't have time to go running around all over Tokyo (like Ginza) or Nagoya, but after looking at the camera ads in the back of Asahi Camera and Cameraman, I think I got not too shabby of a deal. Hope this helps! -Leon |

Alp's Camera in Shinjuku sold the lens for your S3 2000 body separately. They had both on display last December.
The SP2005 displayed in the case in the Nakano store (Fujiya Camera) is #2220. I asked about buying that one myself about a year ago. I ended up with another one instead. Looks like Fujiya is getting low on SP 2005 kits .... |

Hi jonmanjiro & Kiu:
Are you sure that the SP 2005 on display at Fujiya isn't #0220? I could have sworn that was the serial number the box and fancy certificate card. Interesting how Fujiya seems to have their cameras priced less than the competitors that I've seen in Tokyo. Also, simply out of curiousity, do you think that the SP 2005 will have any value as a collectible? The Nikon HS Webmaster stated about the S3 2000: "It has zero outlook as a collectible. It is a reproduction, which will forever brand it as not very valuable." thanks for your input, Leon |

The SP 2005 on display at Fujiya Camera is definitely #2220. Here's some photos I took earlier today with my cell phone (sorry about the poor quality).
Fujiya has the best prices in Tokyo (and by default, Japan?!) on these by far. I saw four on display at Map Camera today ranging from 450,000 yen to 550,000 yen. Three of the four were over 500,000 yen. I also saw a used SP 2005 at Lemonsha in the Ginza a few weeks back for 450,000 yen, and that one had some light marks on it. The only place I've seen them sell cheaper is the Yahoo Japan auctions, but there haven't been any listed for quite a while, and of course you don't get any warranty with them. The Nikon HS Webmaster doesn't have much love for any of the reissue Nikon RFs, so he probably thinks the same of the SP 2005. Personally, I don't think they'll go up in value, but won't go down in value much either. I don't consider mine a "collectible", and lately I've been using it almost daily.

Thanks for the confirmation, jonmanjiro! I guess the old noggin is getting fuzzy with age. Fujiya Camera is indeed great on their prices. I wonder how they
do it, and how come the other stores don't even come close on the big ticket items?
Not to get off too much from the original topic, but have you seen the "Classic Nikon Repair Manual S/SP/F/F2" book published by Studio Tac Creative at the Fujiya Camera Bookstore? I haven't seen anyone mention this book on this forum, but it's quite nice with full color photographs, highly detailed and beautiful, on do-it-yourself repairs, assuming you have the aptitude and tools. Published 10Apr2007, 264 pages at 5,040 yen. -Leon |
