I have noticed different trends when comparing YJ prices to ebay.
Let's make an example:
Nikon S3 2002 limited edition, no lens:
http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d77794887
Current bid is under 35,000 yen which is approximatly $300!!
There seems to be a few of the New Nikon RF cameras on YJ compared to 1 or 2 on ebay. Prices in Yahoo Japan are much more reasonable than on ebay, even if the
item is being offered on ebay from Japan!
True that some YJ sellers ask for 300,000 yen and get it(most don't sell at these prices) but then there are the incomplete units(missing lens,case,box...)
such as the one above that start from 10,000 yen, which NEVER happens on ebay. Well, almost never.
I am fond of the S4(as many of you know), one hardly sees any S4s on ebay and if so,the prices always start at $1500 or more!! Not on Yahoo Japan, most sell
around 100,000 yen including a lens(user examples of course).
So, the bottom line goes back to supply and demand...too much supply of new cameras and S4s in Japan and not enough demand to make the prices rise, althogh
lately, the prices have leveled off. The demand is considerably stronger on this side of the pond and prices are higher as well.
Another note: There are a handfull of ebay sellers offering this stuff from Japan but none sell at Japenese Prices!
Look at this offering:

offered for $5300 which is approximatly 620,000 yen!! I know a member who can buy them under 400,000 yen!!!
Say something Jon
