There seem to be a few people here who own or have used this lens. If you have any serial numbers let me know and I'll add them to my Nikon lens database:
www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html
Thanks - Roland |

Thanks.
I have the following listed in my database (only the lowest and highest are listed on the web site): Pre-AI #628001 reported to be the first made, serial number based on focal length and aperture. Pre-AI #628007 at Nikon showroom in Paris Pre-AI #628019 at Grays of Westminster showroom (AI converted) AI #628030 reported to be the first AI lens AI #628042 sold on ebay in 2006 AI #628147 from Nikon catalog (number not very clear though) AIS #629001reported to be the first AIS lens AIS #629410 from above AIS #629435 sent by Klaus AIS #6294xx from above, supposed to be the last made - would like to know this number! Strangely all the AIS lenses I have come across are 6294xx, I would like to find some earlier ones to fill out the range, and more AI lenses as well. |

The previous pictures uploarded by Jarle was mine. When I asked to upload my picture my handle was murten unregistered. So L6294xx was actually L629410. If the
SN correspondes with the production time mine was not last number. There is more late number 629435 unless the SN and production time corresponds each other.

It appears that lens parts are not always used in the same order they were made, for example I often find overlaps between minor variations. I guess parts
including the serial number ring are made in batches and used at random during assembly. Your lens may have been the last 6mm fisheye made, but it may not have
the highest serial number.
