I tried to pay an eBay item using Paypal today, and found the previously available option for credit card payment is no longer available. My credit card
details are still valid, and the card is not expired. It seems that I can add an American Express credit card, and have all transactions paid in USD regardless
of the eBay currency. However, I can add any debit card with the VISA/Master card logo.
Is this part of the credit crunch bubble? |

i used it last night, the link was still there, just the text is much smaller, they want you to bank account transfers, so they don't get charged
fees.

Credit card option is no longer available on my Paypal UK version. The message from eBay was : PayPal submits American Express transactions in USD, regardless of the currency of your transaction. If your payment or your card is not denominated in USD, we each apply currency conversion commission to the transaction. American Express will credit your American Express statement in an amount estimated to be at least equal to the fees applied to the transaction. We apologize for any inconvenience as we implement a new process to address this issue.
Debit cards (also called cheque cards or bank cards) are accepted if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo.
Is this new ruling for non US Paypal accounts only? |

Just got a reply from Paypal.
"I understand that you are enquiring why your card is no longer available as your funding source when you make a payment. Allow me to extend my apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you. Upon reviewing your account I was able to determine that you have sufficient funds sitting on your PayPal account. That means that when you make payment the PayPal balance funds will be used up first because it is the highest funding source. Please be reminded that card served as a back up funding source. You can only use it if there are no funds on the PayPal balance. If you would like to use your PayPal balance then you would need to transfer the funds to your bank account before you make a payment so that the card will be available as a funding source." Looks like Paypal is limiting the option to use credit cards. Guess I have to empty my Paypal account. |

They are also reducing the number of 'outside PayPal' chargebacks. You can have a 2nd account (1 premium 1 personal) - just transfer the full PayPal
balance into the secondary account, then your backup funding cc is drawn on when making the purchase.
