Some Nikon cameras were inscribed to show they (once) belonged to the US government. Some are fakes, but very difficult to spot the difference from the
genuine ones.
It's not hard to add inscriptions on a camera. There was a completely working F DUMMY on eBay a few years back. Obviously a fake, but sold for a high
price nevertheless.

That's what I thought. U.S.GOVT.PROPERTY doesn't seem right. It's like G.B. or C.H. The one I saw is a 64xxxxx body with a much later FTN prism (also engraved with U.S.GOVT.PROPERTY). Hence it made me suspect it's not genuine. Schoene gal, Sover |
