works like a polaroid speed magny back, page 7-34 in the Complete nikon system by Braczko looks like they eliminated the camera body though, probably for a
microscope, looks like there is a filter dial to the left of the lens,

It's a surveyor's level, "Level E-3 Type" and its dated May of Showa 31 (1956).
