I was looking one of my fairly common chrome Nikon S2 cameras and discovered it was a very early production unit. Its serial number is 6135395, making it the 395th S2 body produced. While many Nikon S2 production differences are well documented in Mr. Rotoloni's book, I did not see where it was mentioned that the serial number was also stamped on the inside of the camera back, similar to what was done for the Nikon S. Just a point I wished to share..just not sure if it is significant..but there you go.. PS-Happy New year all. Regards 7362

Posts: 2167 (01/03/2008 10:40 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The last article about the Nikon S2 was published in NHS-63, very informative and much more detailed than Bob's 1983 Book! Your 6135395 is pretty early, although I have seen some in the 61351xx and below. Bob makes a nice discovery concerning some of the real early examples in the article. The Early S2 examples had the serial number engraved on the back, this continued on serial numbers as late as 614xxxx or later. I have a 6146xxx with matching back. Cheers, Kiu

These pressure plates and tangs are similar to the late production Ss. These S2s have backs with matched serial numbers. The later production S2s have a large pressure plate that is virtually the same used on the SP, etc. These backs are not serial-number matched. The later backs should be interchangeable with that of an SP. I dod not know when the changeover occurred, but it was before the black-dial S2s. WES
