USMC Nikkormat? |
Lead | |
|
I have received a query concerning a United States Marine Corps Nikon. Supposed to have been actually a Nikkormat finished in olive drab and with
"USMC" engraved on top (or somewhere in view). Might be from Viet Nam era. Anyone know anything about such a beast? Thanks, WES

Probably made up for someone in the service? Never heard of them.

I have seen 2 versions | ||
The first one is from this book. The second one is far
more interesting. Its prism was modified with a hugh eyepeice. I have the photos in my old harddisk, but unfortunately my old computer crashed and the photos
may be in one of the dozens backup disks. I don't know if I can find them for you later on...

Typical custom made with the goal to get as much money as possible from greedy collectors: leatherette is not original and the lens is at least 10 years older
than the camera body. Disgusting!

And why would the US Government use a "Nikomat" instead of a "Nikkormat"? It's about the same as the item on this picture, offered on
eBay some years ago:

Hi Richard,
That is the photo I was referring to! It had a hugh eyepeice on top. I lost it during my harddisk crashed. It was a Nikon F not a Nikomat. My bad! |

I like the engraving on these cameras, almost looks like an advertizing banner. someone spent a lotta time and money to do this!!

I was a Photographer's Mate in the Navy in the early seventies ('Nam-era) and believe me the government was very liberal with the taxpayer's money.
Everything was top of the line. We had Leica M-series rangefinders on my ship as standard issue. Photojournalist's were issued Leicaflex SLR's. The
Nikon F (KS-80A) and Beseler Topcon (KS-94A) 35mm SLR's were used for aerial reconnaissance (bulk film magazine, motor drive, pistol grip). The cameras
pictured above look like someone played with some spray paint.

This green F 250 looks like another fake. The adance lever is the 73 Apollo type, but the MD 250 is the early version.
Sooner or later, there will be other varients like fake Russian Leicas. It's really not hard to fake anything. Merry Christmas and happy 2008 to all. |
