A co-worker of mine ordered the D300, he has a promise date of middle of November. I will give you heads-up when I see it.

PS: he has a D70s and D200...the D200 may be for sale.

Nikon D3 - a few more first impressions:
Like I said, ISO 6400 shots are very impressive. I caught myself thinking that contrast was a bit high, but realized that I was looking at 6400 JPEGs straight from the camera (haven't played with the NEF's yet). The viewfinder is very nice, but not as big and bright as I had expected. At first I didn't really notice a big difference from my D2X. Is it just me? The D3 feels very much like the D2X, but even faster. There's almost no viewfinder blackout (and I thought the D2X was fast). Autofocus is also very fast and accurate. The new 24-70mm f/2.8 also seems very nice - but it's a long lens (especially for a standard zoom). In one way it felt like my trusted 17-55mm - only different :-) The 14-24mm is, well, very wide. Didn't try it much, but looking at the quick test shots I'm not 100% convinced. Probably a good lens, though. Don't put too much into it. It just didn't look as good as the 24-70 (not a big surprise really). In any case, it's a special lens for those special shots. Just a few first impressions. Take it for what it's worth. Jarle |

Great feeling ... nice touch
Big and easy to read LCD panel New fonctions ( Level in finder), gorgeous finder !!! Nikon still thinks at his customers... they introduced a new little plastic guide , that I had a hard time to figureout. When you shoot connected to your Mac or PC , the USB cable (Wifi is not yet available ..) can now be guided securely from the outlet without any risk to damage the USB outlet or the cable .. Great idea !!! Any manual lens (even 6, 8 and 13 mm ) can be included in the settings and memorised (as a NO PROCESSOR LENS ) Great again !!! I am dying to use the 8 and the 13 with that camera !!! Well it seems Nikon is back on TOP .... Will shoot Monday on assignments .... |

Good week of testing ... in the middle of regular shootings with manual lenses.
My workhorses were 85 mm PC , and 60mm Macro... Great results and ease. Finally we get rid of that bad habit of "1,5 x factor " ... Superb Dynamic range (200 Asa ... not UNDER that ..not recommended for best range ..) Perfect finder ... the return of PRO bodies ... Well , the fun .. - 28 mm PC 3.5 ... Was happy not to find any vignetting or surprises due to the incident angle of light - 200 f:2 and 300 f:2.8 ...NO SURPRISE !!!! GORGEOUS and sharp ...god ... - my latest acquisition .. the 13 ... is unbelievable,, and with the D3 , it is the biggest Wide angle on the market .... with Orthoscopic possibilities . In architecture , it is a winner !!! I love my D3 !!!! Terry |
