And that is less than the only one I ever owned, they were VERY expensive new. More glass than you can imagine.

Hi,
a prototype of this lens was introduced at the 1970 Photokina, together with the 2.8/8mm. (and the Zoomar 1.2/225mm.!!). Production of the 6mm started in summer 1972. There are three versions: non-AI, AI and AI/S. The last lens was produced in 1998. I guess a total production (given the known serial numbers) of less than 400 lenses. How much of them are still usable is unknown. Regards, Nico |

I used #628003 recently, it worked like a charm. The lens was converted with the appropiate Ai ring. Not my property though... Regards, Gilbert Sandberg |

Hello Kiu,
If I had won that lens I would have travelled to California to get it, no other way given the seller's profile and the lack of info in the auction. Regards, Patrick |

zero feedback | ||

What is it worth, no feedback ? there are others (even NHS members) less trustfull, and all of us started with no feedback, didn't we ???? where should e-bay be if none started to deal with sellers with no feedback, they all started that way. |

Quote: What is it worth? I admit I have no idea!! Don't get me wrong....I have bid and won from many Zero feedback sellers on the 'bay and I have sold to such buyers as well, I would have bid as well(thats if I wanted such a piece)! I simply mentioned, it does make a difference. Patrick, had you won the lens, I don't think you needed to fly to California, with members such as Blacks2 and Lovemynikons residing there, I think we could have found a volunteer to pick it up for you NHS has a strong network all over the world Kiu |

pick up | ||

Kiu, good idea, but if Patrick picks it up himself he can carry the money and pay after having seen the item.
Another problem if a NHS member picks it up, which I am sure one would like to do, how to "bring" it to France, what with customs. But as told, very good idea. |

Sooo masters, Tell us the real price of this tremendeous piece of glassl
I was guessing $12500.00... way too low? I like to remind everyone that the prices have tumbled at least %25...in less tham 3 years....I just bought a Nikon S2 for under $100. I've seen 100cm go for under $30,000! What gives? Not the new collectors!! Kiu |

It must be last production run | ||
|
I bought 6mm/2.8 around 7, 8years ago. When I asked NIKON to order the 6mm/2.8, NIKON asked me some condition I should accept. NIKON said that NIKON has almost no assembly parts such as cast body, a part of front lense units etc at that moment. If I could accept the condition of no future repair request NIKON accept my order and make final one. I accepted it and 6mm came a month later. Mine SN is L6294xx. If NIKONs statement is true mine is the nearest or last production run. I still keep it.

Hi Murten,
Do you actually use the lens? Would be cool to see some photos, both of the lens itself, and photos taken with it. I'm a big fisheye fan myself, although I prefer the full frame 10.5mm (digital) and 16mm (film) versions. Used correctly, these lenses can produce some spectacular images. Thanks, Jarle |

Yes I have pictures of 6mm itself, however I have never used it. So I have no pictures taken by it. I do not know how to up link the pictures in this forum. If you kindly tell me how to do it I will show you the pictures. I am not big fun of fisaheye lense, but I have 10mm for F and 16mm/Ais also.

You'll need to upload the photos to a web server and then link to them by clicking on the "image" button.
If you don't have access to your own web server I'd be happy to host a few photos for you. You can send them to webmaster at nikonweb dot com. Jarle |

No, I cannot not access web server and I have no personal web server yet. I will send several pictures to the webmaster at nikonweb.com. I have two questions. How I can know the email address of webmaster? Can I send them promptly to him?

Another bit of trivia on the 6mm f/2.8 Fisheye-Nikkor. So the tale goes that the British military ordered several 6mm and 2000mm (Reflex-Nikkors) around
1990-1991 for their use during the Gulf War. When the war ended so soon the Brits cancelled the contract, but Nikon was left with several of these
lenses,--which they quickly sold off for something less than production costs (where was I then!)
Someone on this board mentioned that a 6mm 2/8 sold recently on Christie's for around $5600. (Where was I THEN!) Dan |

Hi Dan,
By any chance do you have a link to the one sold at Christies? I tried their website but unlike Westlicht I could not find out old auctions. Cheers, Chamster
