Hello......Decided to take a chance on another S (have my fathers S he picked up in '53 in Korea) to "restore" and shoot with. It arrived
today.Well, the flash sync connectors are not the 2 prong style but appear to be standard PC-Sync connectors. I was going to replace the shutter curtain and a
CLA, but I want to make sure I'm not screwing up anything unique as I can't seem to find ANY info about the S having anything but the 2 prong affair.
Serial #6126551 doesn't seem to be anything special. Were later S's produced with the regular PC-syncs? Is it a really good fake? Was there a retrofit?
I'm not a collector and shoot with my current S quite a bit. If this one is nothing special, it'll have a roll of Tri-X in it in about a week. Thanks

on the top edge plate is there a small F and S engraved where the holes for the flash sync would have been?

Yes, it has the F and S and there are 2 connectors. One under the F and one under the S. The only difference are the Pc-Sync connectors in place of the prong
style. Without pulling the leather off, it seems that there isn't a second hole next to either of the connectors. I thought about hooking a flash to it,
but I don't know how 50+ year old wiring might like the newer flashes.

are the newer flash syncs centered in the section, or do they look off center, if off center, the person who installed them probably used 1 of the old flash
connector holes and covered up the other one. the new flash would not hurt the old camera.

Yes, it appears that they used the outside holes for the connectors. The camera isn't in the greatest shape, but whoever did the retrofit did a nice job.
I'm going to try a flash this evening. Was this a common modification?
