This (former) 99% Mint in Box Nikon F FTn was auctioned, by me, at eBay a few weeks ago. The buyer received the parcel yesterday, Oct. 10, and claims that the camera arrived in this terrible condition. Please note that the camera body was so clean that you could have eaten it, so the dust shown in the pictures is supposed to be prism/mirror glass and debris particles resulted from the destruction itself. I don't really think that the damage was the result of your everyday kind of mishandling mishap... As a side note, and because I'm actually abroad, sought locally for the the opinion of an engineer at a mechanical shop (the closest I could find to an expert opinion at this point) who, based on the pictures and after inspecting my current Nikon F, believes the damage to the camera appears to be the result of a seriously strong impact. He even suggested that the camera got pressured hundreds of pounds to, laterally, collapse. Please let me know about your thoughts. Best regards, Jose. Last Edited By: gonikon 10/12/2007 08:31 AM. Perhaps a pallet was put down on the box it was in, a wooden pallet would certainly crush a cardboard box with a Nikon in it. I assume the shipper is paying? You did insure it? I have had some odd stuff happen. A couple of years ago I received a brand new printer from a reputable seller in California. The box arrived a bit stained, but I figured it had just gotten wet. But when I opened the box it was full of OIL. Black motor oil. Of course they sent me a refund, but I never did find out what happened. Strange things happen when you ship. The parcel was shipped by USPS International Priority, partially insured (because of USPS coverage limitations). Hope that the buyer did it fine and reported the issue to the local PO (in Canada). By the way, and after over 600 packages shipped worldwide, this is the first time that something of this nature happens...

Nowadays, all postal carriers are using automatic machines to scan and sort out packages. This one probably fell off one of those belts and crashed by a fork lift. I do believe that you will have to file the complain here in the States. I own a UPS/FedEx shipping center, they always like us to file the complain/claim where the package is shipped. I normallly tell my customers to have the receivers also filing complains so the carriers will hear from both sides. At lease now you have a one of a kind paper weight, a customer of mine sent a package last year and the UPS plane crashed and burned, his package went up in smoke!!

My guess is that it was on such moving carpet (just like in the airports) and that it got crushed between to rollers. If you get it back, I am willing to take care of it, send it to me, would love to have one like that, realy.
