weight of the 331 version is 4 oz. the 402 version is 5 oz. 324xxx lens is 7.2 oz.
Not much info about the lens in Nikon Historical Journals or Roberts Bible. Looks like they were issued on chrome bodies, lens was on 6104369.

331xxx is just too early for the S2.
This is the earliest batch of all-black 5cm Nikkor-S Ever recorded! I wonder what this batch started with? Kiu |

I have a all black f1.4 that came with a black S2, the serial number is 358036, as I mentioned once before, this is an all black aluminum lens, it weighs 120 grams. R. Rotoloni says they do exist, however the lens pictured with 4oz. does not equal 120 grams, it's lower,120 grams = 4.2oz. Strange?

Gentlemen,
As of my current records, the very first batch of all black 1.4s starting with 331 run from 331050 to 331484. By the way, most have been found on Nikon S bodies and the only literature I have seen showing this batch has it mounted on a chrome S. Which is correct based on its serial number. Not black Ss, but common garden variety chrome ones. However, I found mine years ago on a Contax IIa. Collecting can be crazy. RJR |

As Bob R points out these lenses first appeared on Nikon S cameras, then exclusively on Nikon S2 black paint.
The chrome front ring persisted as a Nikon design far into the SLR era, Nikon never seemed to believe it created a flare issue. I always found it a rather odd design, that they ever used chrome rings. |
