Sorry Kiu (and Pete), but the lens for sale is NOT a prototype lens!! The first series started with serial number 970111 and went up to 985xxx.
OK Gentlemen,
as I stated before: 'some lenses may fit but be careful with the lens mount'. The lens mount of a D200 has a latch to couple with (the internal light meter of) the AI/S mount of AI/S-lenses. If you use a non-AI/S lens there will be no coupling; whether you enter the lens data in the camera's software or not. So: there will be no metering or other possibility to use the camera's programs. But the lens will still fit as it has the F-mount. Some non-AI/S-lenses have a mount...

"Don't mount a non-ai lens on D200."

Ah, but it depends on the lens. I have a Nikon FM2 and F6006, both of which call for ai lenses. I can't mount my auto-nikkors which are non-ai. Won't go on. But the NF adaptor fits on fine, because it clears the the f-stop sensor ring. Same goes for bellows and other non-ai items. You have to experiment with each lens carefully. Some will mount, some won't. I have found that auto-Nikkors will usually not fit if they are non-ai, but...

According to the D200 manual, non-AI lenses cannot be used. I would not mount a non-AI lens on a modern DSLR.

Manual focus AIS-lenses, on the other hand, I use all the time. Just bought a dirt cheap, like new 55mm f/2.8 micro for use with my D2X. Excellent combination! (Other personal favourites include the 28mm f/2 and 85mm f/2).

Hi,
in principle you can mount any Nikkor with a F-mount ( AI, AIS, AF etc.) on a Nikon D200. If you enter the aperture and focal length of any AI/S-lens in the software of the camera the camera will 'see' the lens and will be able to measure. All non-AI lenses can't be mounted as the lightmeter won't work. Some lenses may fit but be careful with the lens mount.
In your case it is possible to mount a 55mm/1.2 AI (an AIS version doesn't exist) on a D200.
