While I was scanning N-F tubes for a thread Kiu started I thought about something that I have asked about before (some time ago).

Since we have a lot of knowledgeable new blood, I am wondering if anyone has collected the cable release specifically made for the 350 short mount.

This lens was semi auto design, meaning that it was focussed wide open, then the user would tap a button and it would close down for shooting. Nikon showed it with a cable release that would pre-release the lens,...

Mine came with a box only. Interestingly the box was the one with the little Nikon Fs all over it, since the lens was actually considered a Nikon F lens. I
have never seen a case for the 180 or the 250, and mine, both new came without. The 500 came with a wooden box, and the 1000 6.3 with a metal (steel) box.
I do not have the instruction sheet, I only got a warranty card with mine, from Nikon New York.

Hi Fred,

As you are the lucky owner of a new 350mm lens, I would like to know if it was provided with a case (leather or wooden?)... I have a Nikon price list from July
1959. There was no case listed for the telephoto lenses from 180mm. It seems they were only provided with caps & lenshood.

Moreover, how does the manual look like? Was it provided with the regular interchangeable lens instruction sheet?

Thanks for your informations.

Something important I missed mentioning, is the lens shown with the cable release in Nikon literature is not the one that was actually sold.

Note also it uses a different serial number range, starting with 101, and is not apparently the first one, the implication is that there are two ranges, or that it is a pre-production mock up, for photographs.

In addition to the lenses mentioned by Fred, the 180mm f/2.8 (at least my AF version, haven't checked the MF ones) has a diaphragm behind the lens elements. There may be other ones as well.
Kiu:
No wooden case was made for the 350, that I know of. But these lenses all came in a cardboard "case" (at least in the '60s) the wood case was an option.

The 500 diaphragm is also behind, see diagram below. Other lenses for the F were designed that way also (400, 600, 800, 1200).
