Not only is it heading for Japan, its heading directly up the Izu Peninsula and will pass just to the west of Tokyo/Yokohama. Since typhoons spin anticlockwise, that's pretty much a direct hit.

What category is it??
With the Global warming looming...I am sure Typhoons will be nastier and stronger just as Hurricanes have been lately.

I have a feeling we'll get one in the USA this year for sure,as we were lucky last year and didn't get one.

There's a big typhoon heading directly towards Tokyo/Yokohama! It's due in about 12 hours or so. No need to worry though, these things are never as powerful as Category 5 hurricanes. You can see the projected path on YJ at the link below.

Yes. Yahoo BB (i.e. broadband) is one of the biggest ISPs.

In Japan, internet access has improved drastically in recent years. 10MB to 100MB optical fibre connections are now the norm. And cheap too. I really need to upgrade ....

So the answer is that Yahoo has life outside of the West, more than one could have expected?

Wonder why Yahoo is so popular? I always hear from friends in Japan that internet access was more difficult to obtain than here, especially reasonably priced homepages.

Jon is Yahoo an ISP as well?

Practically everyone I know has Yahoo Japan set as their homepage. It's "the" source for news, weather info, train timetables, etc. etc. etc.

I would say they are VERY successfull.

The market in Japan was so small for eBay, only 25,000 listings, it was surprising they even tried, they closed many years ago (I think it was 2001)

It is hard to know how many listings have been on Yahoo, I have not been able to find any figures on this venture. Or how much Japanese listing is done in English on eBay US.

Yahoo Auctions is actually a Japanese company owned in majority by Softbank. It is listed on the Nikkei Exchange and discloses and reports its own...

Yahoo Japan started doing auctions in Japan before Ebay Japan could get in on the game. By the time Ebay Japan did start up, everybody was already using Yahoo Japan. Ebay Japan tried for a few years to catch up, but never did, and eventually gave up and closed down. The Yahoo Japan auctions are now going stronger than ever.

if the dealers in japan continue with the " will not ship out of japan " policy. yes it will continue. ebay wants the worldwide audience.

We have all been enjoying the translations and prices provided by members from Yahoo Japan... but Will Yahoo survive in Japan. Now that Yahoo has closed auctions in the the US, I wonder if any of you who have been watching Japan have any insight into the number of users, and the health of the venue?
